The percentage error is 2.5915%. The error in measurement can be reduced by using another vibrometer with lower natural frequency.

4.8 Experimental Methods for Damping Evaluation

The analysis presented in this chapter and the preceding chapter shows that damping has a significant effect on the dynamic behavior and the force transmission in mechanical systems, and it also has an effect on the design of the measuring instruments, as demonstrated in the preceding section. In the analysis presented thus far, we assumed that all the physical properties of the system such as mass, stiffness, and damping are known. While in most applications, the mass and stiffness of the system can easily be determined, relatively more elaborate experiments are usually required for evaluating the damping coefficients. Because of the significant effect of the damping, we devote this section to discussing some of the techniques which can be used to determine experimentally the damping coefficients.
